An eighteenth century Japanese eleven-act puppet play, telling the story of the Forty-Seven Ronin. Chushingura is regarded as one of the most popular Japanese plays ever written, originally written in 1748.

The plot revolves around the revenge of the forty-seven ronin, an event in 1702 in which a group of loyal ronin, leaderless samurai, avenged the death of their master.

This is a comprehensive translation, complete from the original text, which notes and introduction to increase the readers comprehension and enjoyment.

Originally written in Japanese by Takeda Izumo, Miyoshi Shoraku, and Namiki Senryu.
