DESCRIPTION

The first edition of this vanishingly scarce work.

Authors presentation copy, lovingly inscribed to the recto to the front endpaper, Twenty two years ago You were once a dream of mine as is this book - you make any dream seem rather poor in need of being furbished up. Bolking, with love from R., May 2 1931, "I adore the power which sleeps now in the heart of women..." p.280..

In the original unclipped dust wrapper.

A riveting novel following the life of Susan Rivarol, a spirited woman who deeply influences two men in this novel - the narrator Professor Owen Mansfield, and his friend, a biologist, Tom Mair. Set during the Victorian era, this novel looks into the moral and social restrictions, against such Susan revolts.

Written by Hugh de Selincourt, who is best remembered today for his novel about village cricket, The Cricket Match.

With decorations by Freda Lingstrom, an influential BBC producer who pioneered childrens television in the early 1950s, creating both Andy Pandy and The Flower Pot Men.
