The first edition of this work from English artist, Church of England cleric, schoolmaster and author William Gilpin.

This charming study contains Gilpins observations drawn from travels in North Wales, Cambridge, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, based upon tours undertaken in 1769 and 1773.

Illustrated with twenty aquatint plates of ruins and castles. Collated, complete.

Lacking the half title. Endpapers renewed. Contemporary inscription to verso of a front blank.

A beautifully illustrated study from the travel writer who is known as one of the originators of the idea of the picturesque.


CONDITION

In cloth backed paper covered boards, with endpapers renewed. Bumping to board perimeters and back strip head. Contemporary inscription to verso of a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with handling marks throughout.
