Illustrated with frontispiece, a portrait plate, five folding tables, and forty-four plates. Collated complete.
A detailed topographical study of Wiltshire, with chapters on Bradford, Chippenham, Highworth, Kingsbridge, Malmesbury, Dunworth, Selkley, and Westbury. Includes an index of places and persons, as well as a glossary.
Written by John Aubrey, an English antiquary, writer, and natural philosopher known as the author of Brief Lives, a collection of short biographical pieces. He was also a pioneer in the field of archaeology as he recorded numerous megalithic field monuments in southern England, for the first time.
Corrected and enlarged by John Edward Jackson, an English clergyman, antiquary, and archivist.
CONDITION
In the original full brown cloth. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Age toning and light spotting to the endpapers. Library ink stamp to the front endpaper, reverse of the frontispiece, reverse of the title page, and the rear pastedown. With ink notes from the library to the front endpaper and title page.
